Week 13 | 2012

So a couple of weeks ago a good friend of mine offers to lend me he’s backup camera ─ a Canon 30D[he shoots with a 5D2 now]. After much thought & contemplation, I knew I had wanted to go the Canon side and build a system but I really didn’t know which model, whether XXXD or XXD. My friend tells me: What are friends for ─ Canon 30D “Jorge, try my 30D, it’s literally almost brand new and it looks minty its been in its box since 2007, you’ll like it. I bought it, barely used it, and I decided to go full frame with the 5D, so all in all, I think I used it maybe 4 times and it has less than 2k frames, try it out and see how it feels.”   Great, a new older camera. I didn’t’ really know what to expect. As you know, viewing gear on the web is a completely different experience when you see things personally [where was I going to see a Canon 30D lol?] …

Maybe it’s like becoming one with the cigar. You lose yourself in it; everything fades away: your worries, your problems, your thoughts. They fade into the smoke, and the cigar and you are at peace. Raul Julia

Business of Photography

For me the true business of photography is to capture a bit of reality (whatever that is) on film…if, later, the reality means something to someone else, so much the better.   Garry Winogrand   This is so true, sometimes we photograph because we simply like to press that shutter. Sometimes we frame with intent and yet other times, instinct takes over. Some may argue that the more you photograph the more you see. I tend to agree with this thought, the art of photographing matures like anything else and our eyes simply “see” better, frame better. Our cameras become extension of our eyes, our senses, its almost like a “Spider Sense” it just is. So if you’re new to this craft, keep pressing that shutter, keep seeing, even without a camera, let time pass, and I’m sure things will happen. If you’re a seasoned Tog, then reinvent yourself, there are many roads which to embark, think outside the box, go against what feels comfortable. If you shoot portraits for a living, perhaps shoot some …

Week 12 | 2012

This week I inaugurated a new place to call home. Its smaller than were I was but these days size is not a major factor me and fiance, instead location, location, locaction. I’m the heart of Miami, a city called Coral Gables, a small city within a city, and home to the University of Miami Hurricanes, Billy Joel’s famous Miracle Mile, and many other sites. Changes The architecture is rich and old spanish is the main theme, in short, stunning and gorgeous. Just outside the Gables, the famous political pit stop for all politicians, local and presidential. Yes Newt, Romney, Santorum, and Obama have all passed by and drank “cafecito” there in an attempt to engratiate themselves with the local electorate – the famous Versailles Restaurant. Little Havana is a short 3 min drive away to the east and Downtown Miami a little further east as well. To say that I’m excited at the photographic opportunities in this new area is an understatement. Photographically Speaking This week I finally got a chance to persuse some …
