Here’s a set with the Canon 40mm 2.8 Pancake. These session was two-fold. One, trying to practice candid photography for an upcoming wedding and two, testing out the sharpness of this lens at various apertures.
How do you like the lens? I have been thinking about getting one … maybe after I read your thoughts. From the photographs here I can see it has something, but it has a lot more to do with you behind the lens. Nice candid shots.
Thanks for the compliment Matthew. Well, here’s the nitty gritty on this lens. Its super sharp at f4. I like the “slight” bokeh at f2.8 and its rather great as a little macro. As you know, I’m shooting it on a 450D and its resolving quite well to my non technical eye. I’ll be trying it on a 40D soon but if yours is a higher generation I’m sure you’ll like the results as well. Go for it. its a great walk around lens, good for street photography, great for mini portraits session as this post humbly shows, and I think its selling point is how small your camera feels with it on. With the sudden rush of m43 camera I think Canon pumped out this lens to try to appease its users with the size factor. Did they succeed? I think so. Also check out Andrew Gibson, he’s got some great posts on this lens. He uses an adapter that reduces the focusing distance and that I’m dying to try myself. Cheers Matthew.
