Doing what you do best [arguably] is one way of continuing to refine your craft. Being out there and photographing is one of my life’s simple pleasures. I disconnect and simply observe and sometimes engage with conversation with my subjects. No right or wrong but just simple and that’s where I’m headed. I tweeted yesterday:

When it comes to how cameras handle, its safe to say, we [togs] have a lot options these days. Keen followers of my blog and twitter stream will undoubtebly know that I’ve switched cameras quite often in search for that holy grail which only beckons the question ― Does the holy grail exists? Of course not, there is no perfect camera, but just our own often times self imposed thoughts about a particular piece of gear, after all, we are all humans and we sometimes love these kinds scenarios. As my father often says, “we don’t learn in someone’s elses head, only in our own” [it sounds way better in Spanish ― Nadie aprende en cabeza ajena].

Ricoh GRD3 ― It’s Time   The whole mobile internet photography theme lead by the famous Instagram seems to make some folks uncomfortable and ask a series of questions which are rather interesting. Actually, some people even feel threatened by this sudden rush of images coming at you almost by the second. In the latest This Week in Photography I even heard some images from the Olympics got published in a major magazine and all of them courtesy of Instagram and iPhone.

For me, photography is not a means by which to create beautiful art, but a unique way of encountering genuine reality. Daido Moriyama Its not often you fall in love with someone, break up, and then somehow, almost in a miraculous way, you mature, and end up seeking that another person. One can say, that you value such a person for everthing they do or represent, but in essence describing feelings can certainly be a tricky scenario. Sometimes you can’t quite point your finger at it but other times you can aim with reassurance you’ve made a great decision in trying to rekindle a relationship.

Summer Heat — Ricoh GRD 3   Miami is hotter than ever I tell you. Its to the point that its borderline unbearable to be on the streets. You can probably fry an egg on the street in a couple of minutes without any problems. Coupled with the humidity at 100% and a temperture of 98 degrees it actually feels like 108 degrees, too much to bare for any human being if you ask me.

As I continue to progress through this project I’m continuously being surprised by what catches my eye. I feel so comfortable now that my photography has become one. One mind and one image. I can’t quite explain it and I hate to sound cliche but I can tell you that, I see things. Those of you who make photographs should be able to relate to this feeling.

I alluded to the term “shutter therapy” last week and its reinforced on me everyday I shoot. Its almost like a magical elixir which cures you of what can sometimes be a a busy lifestyle. Via photography I loose myself in the moment and the minutes and sometimes hours seem to last forever. Its most definitely my magic pill. Sympathy For The Devil
