Week 7 | 2012

I can’t believe I’m at week 7 of this project. It almost seems like its been an eternity already. Not wishing when is it going to end but how is it going to turn up. I want to make something clear before the weeks continue to add up. I photograph because I love the craft and I photograph for myself. Prime Lens Eyes Photography gives me another view, a prime view we can call it. Our eyes are like to two prime lenses, always active, always surveying, and always photographing. Also, I want it to clarify, that I don’t take a long time to write the narratives that go along with the imagery. These words are simply my own words as I type them across my desktop, laptop, and yes even mobile phone. I write in moments, sometimes getting a thought and quickly writing it down on my blackberry and just letting it run loose. I suppose that’s called freestyle writing and that’s the aim of this journal. Its actually quite a cathartic process — …

Week 6 | 2012

Photographing daily, weekly, or in whatever time frame can be really thought provoking and at the same time frustrating. There are so many factors involved in shooting that every so often everything seems to go awry.   Disconnected Fragments Rain was the protagonist this week. Everyday was cloudy and the light simply was not the best. Well, not the best but at least it felt that way for me so inspiration was certainly very low on the radar. A particular surprise came this week as well. An old friend called and wanted to know if I could take a couple of portraits in black and white to use as his main image for his law firm. To say, I was extremely humbled would not accurately descibe how I felt. It turns out he’s been secretly following a few post here and there and took notice of some street portraits and liked the look. I’ve taken many street portaits and candids before and generally these happen in a fraction of a second with no contact from …

Week 5 | 2012

I recently tweeted that when the inpiration strikes to act fast and I certainly think that applies to all photographers and as well as all creatives in general. Harnessing that intensity can sometimes be difficult but when you photograph for yourself and then share, then the ties that bind are so much stronger. Striking Inspiration Inherently, I’m attracted to photographer’s work that pulls my imagination through up & above. Being myself a photographer(well, at least I like to call myself that) then I can most of the time see how they arrived at such creativity and then be smitten, not only by their powerful imagery(and sometimes narrative) but also a keen sense of admiration as to how they arrive at such a final product. This week I was struck by the visual marvels of a wonderful application for the iPhone titled Instagr.am and how, in my humble opinion, has revolutionized or perhaps better said, popularized and made accesible to the masses a slew of visual effects that can make ordinary images into something truly special. …

Week 4 | 20102

The Rebirth of Cool Have you ever felt invisible, on top of the world and just filled with creativity. Well, that’s exactly how I feel after having been without a photographic tool for about 10 days just observing and making imaginary shots. The images on this post all belong the Lumix LX3. I was so enchanted with this little jewel that I even decided to write my first ongoing user base experience review to chronicle my findings. I found the title of this week’s post very apropos — The Rebirth of Cool, as its exactly how I feel. Having had time off daily photographing and honing in the eye plus coupled with a tool that really acts as an extension of the eye is a truly marvelous experience. You may be asking yourselves perhaps “Where does the LX3 fit into your workflow?” Well, as I explained in the previous week. I’m going through a metamorphosis much like a butterly and this week marks the rebirth of something new, something special, something dear to me and …

Week 3 | 2012

Metamorphosis & Finding oneself   So I purchased another book from the great folks at Craft & Vision titled “Close to Home” which really just reinforced all the things I’ve been thinking about as of late. To give you a brief synopsis of Close to Home I’ll allude to one of the quotes within the book which says: “To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”   – Elliot Erwitt

Week 2 | 2012

A Rite of Passage As I continue to “look and observe” through my photographic path the more I realize that opportunities are everywhere. At times, photographing becomes second nature and yet other times the creative machinery must be kicked started. Now I’m realizing you need some sort of stamina to photograph habitually. For me, I feel the urge to photograph most of the time but when coupled with a little something called “Life & Responsibilities” things get a little bit more complicated.

Week 1 | 2012

Quotidian Photography, seeing things differently Well, I figured that a proper introduction is the right way to begin this project. My name is Jorge Ledesma and I consider myself an aficionado of this great craft called photography. Some of you may already know me from Flickr or perhaps Twitter. To you guys who have commented on my blog and my Flickr stream with great insights, constructive criticism, and just about anything in general – thank you, I’m truly humbled and appreciative of your time and kind words.

Week 0 | 2012

Changes are always full of surprises and doubts. In my case, I’ve been toying with this idea for some months now and what better time to execute it than a new year. In anticipation for what’s coming in 2012, mainly a reduction of time for yours truly, and with the inspiration of some of my favorite togs – Wouter Brandsma and Josh White. I’m doing what will only give me more time to shoot & process and engage with various photographic projects I’d like to begin and finish. So with that said, I’m porting over my site over to the land of WordPress.com blogs whilst keeping my domain and redirecting the old urls to the new ones. In practice, its not as hard as I had originally envisioned. A few technicalities involved ie. Permalink structure and off course a good house cleaning to start the new year fresh. But more importantly the relaxing feeling that there is minimal maintenance involved. Gone are the days of updating your WP installation and watching to see if anything …
