So I contact my friend’s dad yesterday which curiously is nicknamed Leica Man. Let’s rewind right quick. I started with photography back in 1994 and actually it was with Leica Man’s Canon F1. I mean his son was one of my best friends in high school (1986-1991) and I’ve visited his house a million times. Why Leica Man? Well his Leica collection is considered to be the one of the biggest in the United States with all sort of Leica glass and all cameras up to the M6 (he never went digital) including Leica R bodies and glass. Fast forward, to yesterday and I give him a call, it turns out he has a photography exposition this evening which he invited me to attend. In conversation, he tells me how he’s now shooting M43 (G2/GH2) due to his age and weight factor of his other gear (Leica/Canon) but his happy and is making large canvas prints and having a good ole time. Every so often on our photographic journeys we arrive at new paths. These paths lead to new doors and its up to us, to either cross them or stay behind. What are you going to do? Personally, I just arrived at a new door myself and I still don’t know what the other side holds, but one thing is for certain, you can bet I’m passing through.   Are you passing through as well or staying back?    

Conversation ― 450D     I usually never shoot with a theme in mind but this week is a little different I wanted to experiment with grain and also continue to work on candids(I’m gearing up for an upcoming wedding). Also I figure I’d give a bit of background on some shots. The first was a scene that just happened and looked to good to pass up the light was perfect and even though its slightly off focus I think it works beautifully. The image went thru a VSCO Film preset and tweaked to my liking.

Players Luck ― LX5 These are one of the first few shots from the LX5 (or Leica D-Lux 5). I primarily got this camera to compensate for the GRD3’s lack of zoom. I love the GRD3 and I’ve had plenty of experience with compacts especially the world famous LX3 which in a way revolutionize high end compacts but when you need a little zoom action, you just need, its as simple as that. No need to over analyze whether its more or less and the “oh my, you’re not shooting with a fixed focal length,” nah I really don’t care for all that stuff. The LX5 is its next iteration and a great one it is. These insights are of course my own and I do know the LX7 is now out but I usually don’t buy the latest and supposedly greatest right away, I’m more interest in the way the camera handles for my everyday shooting and with 200 frames or so, I can say the LX5 handles just fine.

A fellow photographer and friend, Josh White from JT in Seoul(or is it Canada now) , recently wrote a very enlightening post titled – Near Equal. Basically, Josh frees himself from that gear attitude many of us seem to hold on.   Ricoh GRD3
